Oakley Antix Visor, Sports or just totally cool?
The Oakley ANTIX are the sunglasses of pro-athletes. These sunglasses are commanding all those of you who demand a lifestyle of sports, action and individuality. Smooth lines, rounded angles, carefully moulded contours.
I was taking a stroll down the high street when I first saw these beauties. .......they were on display and they caught my eye straight away. I just remember thinking, smooth angles, polished frame...Yeah Nice. I had to go in for a closer inspection. Sold!
I think it was the way these sunglasses have been engineered so meticulously
which made them a must have. The combination of the sleek frame and new square
metal accents gives the ANTIX visual thrust. Then there's the hinges, constructed
with precision and performing with durability and comfort.
To me they scream sports pro. I like to wear these day to day with jeans and a
tee, or just shorts for when I'm playing sport. Like you, I'm the kind of guy that
likes to stand out, the ANTIX make me feel important, a cut above. At the end of
the day, there's a certain guy that stand up to the impact the ANTIX have. They
have an attitude and original style coupled with sheer authenticity, which only
Oakley pulls off .
When I met my sunglasses for the first time, slid them onto my face and looked in the mirror, i realised me and these sunglasses were meant to be They married to my face so comfortably (That'll be Oakley's 3-point fit). They offered the visual impact I was looking for this summer (That'll be the shiny curved frames). This is my third pair of Oakley Sunglasses. I wear my Juliets when I'm with the Mrs for the day or my older Fives daily, but I wanted something with more impact. My ANTIX come out when I'm out with the boys, watching a game or having a kick around in the park.
When I took my Oakley's for my Antix debut, I was impressed (to say the least) at how clear the world appeared (That'll b the Thanks to HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS or HDO's for visual clarity). Not only was my view clear, thanks to the single continuous PLUTONITE lens, it was also unobstructed and with complete range. I was quite happy to chill in the sun watching the game all day, comfortable in the knowledge my eyes are being protected with 100% UV filtering.
Style and colours? I opted for the Brown Tortoise/Dark Bronze (03-703). They look slick and sporty, SO in keeping! I particularly like the mottled effect on the frame. But if this isn't your style, Oakley offer a choice of lenses and frames and it depends what you're after. Opt for the Black (Black Tortoise/Black Iridium 03-701)or Grey (Polished Black/Warm Grey 03-700) which are epically good at reducing the glare and keeping a sharp focus. If you're like me, you'll go for the dark bronze lens. I took them abroad to Spain and despite the bright sunlight, I was perfectly comfortable wearing them around the pool all day. Two polarized lens options are available, and both cut glare with 99% polarization efficiency. They also eliminate the haze and distortion found with ordinary polarized lenses.
Five time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb has a record 47 wins under his
belt, making him the most successful rally driver in history. He is literally a
master in trade. As you know by now, Oakley don't do things by halves, which
enforces the fact Oakley and Sebastien Loeb have formed a partnership under
ANTIX, to produce world class sunglasses. The unique features include chequered
square 'O' icons, replicating the chequered flag on the stem and Sebastians
signature. This is etched on the lower edge of the lens and screen printed
inside the right stem.
A rally drivers eyes are constantly switching from car, to road, to tree to
track, any obstructions to their vision will alter performance and potentially
endanger their life. With this in mind, Oakley created the ANTIX with a single
continuous lens, carefully crafted from a single material, ensuring the widest
range of vision. This, coupled with the High Definition Optics (HDO's) and
POLARIC ELLIPSOID lens geometry, provide the perfect trio for ultimate vision.
Imagine the scene.....the air is filled with dirt and dust, the rain douses the
car and the mirrored pavement glistens. Everything has to be right, the
slightest glitch could send even the most experienced driver off track. So
Oakley created the ANTIX with HDPolarized optics to give Sebastien the edge and
ensure there was no room for error. The optics wipes out and visual distortion,
giving clear cut visuals in any condition. Not only this, they filter 99% of
reflected glare, useful in rain and sun.
The Sébastien Loeb Signature Series ANTIX is also enhanced with a Grey lens hue
that helps maintain colour recognition in bright sunlight.
Not only do the PLUTONITE lenses filter all UV rays, they are also mounted in an
O MATTER frame. This is a lightweight, stress resistant material which
ultimately ensures day long comfort and close fit which only touch the face at
the sides of the head and bridge of the nose. Sebastien is prepared for whatever
the race throws at him too as the lens meets ANSI Z87.1 basic standards for
impact resistance.
Don't get me wrong, me and my ANTIX, we're inseparable! But soon after I
purchased them, I spotted the Brown Smoke/Tungsten Iridium (12-960)'s. Just as
functional as my ANTIX, but with that extra touch of the polarized lens. I just
so easily get suckered in by extra features. I think why do things by halves? So
I caved and bought the Polarized too! (Yet another for the collection!).
You've got to give it to Oakley. What great salesmen. 2pairs in the same
range... and I like them both as much. That's just me being pedantic, both pairs
can hold their own and ANTIX originals are perfect for day to day wear. But when
I'm in the car, or playing tennis, I like to take my Polarized lens for that
extra protection from glare since my eyes are court, sky, court, sky...the
lenses mean my eyes don't suffer. I have added comfort from the durable frames
and hinge mechanisms, which remain comfortable all day and what's really great
is they don't distort like I've found with polarized lenses in the past.
I went for the bronze, but they also do a warm grey or black lens for differing
levels of light absorption.
As ever, Oakley are constantly striving to improve and they've done this
again by producing the FUENTE ANTIX. Obviously a lot like the original, but with
an extra touch of panache. The FUENTE are refined with a slightly more polished
finish for a more refined feel. They take inspiration from the single lens of
the Oil Rig, coupled with the ANTIX frame giving a snappy look. Its only this
limited edition which come with Tungsten Polarized optics. They give you crystal
clear vision by enhancing visual contrast and balancing light transmission,
basically ensuring the correct amount of light is filtered through into your
eyes.
The Fuente take all the qualities from the ANTIX; the plutonite lens, HDO's,
lightweight O-matter....(well, you know the score by now) and add that extra
flair with '1975' imprinted on the frame. The year from which sunglasses would
never be the same and seek to push the boundaries on design and technology.
The Antix is a stunning visor from the Oakley collection. It is sports driven and this is clear to see in the format used to make this frame, its sleek and slender, a seamless work of art. Available in a variety of colours, the Antix has as a shade to suit all personalities and tastes. Clean lines and smooth contours are a necessity for any sporting individual, so Oakley do not disappoint and have produced a sunglass that is aerodynamic yet is stylish and creditable on the fashion scene. The Antix has added attitude compared to many other sporting sunglasses, in keeping with Oakley’s ethics that refuses to conform to set boundaries or limitations.
There is no additional bulk with these frames, maintaining Oakley’s promise of light weight O Matter frames that are suitable for prolonged use. They have also incorporated polaric ellipsoid geometry which facilitates in extending your peripheral view. With the Oakley Antix, no detail is too small or insignificant which is why they have once again used their high definition optics in their lenses, meaning optimal visual clarity and impact resistance that meets ANSI Z87.1 standards. As with all Oakley sunglasses the three point fit principle is used; which entails comfortable and snug fitting at the 3 main points that the sunglasses and the face make contact, i.e. the bridge of the nose and at either side of the head. This 3 point fit ensures the sunglasses stay fixed to the face so that during sporting activity, the sunglasses will not hinder your performance. UV filtering is an uncompromising 100%, and the durable design features sculpturally integrated hinge mechanisms with dual action cams. All these additional functions mean that the Oakley Antix is ideal for any sporting scenario and varying light conditions.
As Oakley rejects restrictions, the Antix is obtainable in multiple lens options to suit your individual needs. A warm grey lens will aid in reducing glare whilst maintaining colour recognition in bright sun and the Black Iridium will do the equivalent but will also balance light transmissions. Oakley provides a dark bronze lens and this enhances visual contrasts with light filtering that begs for blinding solar rays. Polarised lenses are optional with this frame also. Oakley’s polarised lenses are exceptional; cutting glare with 99percent efficiency whilst eliminating haze and distortion found with some other polarised lenses on the market. The grey polarised lens is great for truer colour recognition whilst the Tungsten Iridium lens offers improved contrast and depth perception.
I think the Antix was developed for guys, however I wear them and I am female. What’s more they look fantastic as a fashion pair of sunglasses. My last sunglasses admittedly were Oakley, the Oakley Breathless but I wanted something a bit more subtle. I was looking for a pair to wear this winter for skiing but I fell in love with the red Antix and now you won’t catch me without them.

Oakley Antix is my new day to day, serves me for everything pair of sunglasses. Yes they are a little bit sporty but so what. As far as I am concerned they are one of the hottest frames to ever walk out the Oakley factory. I am not a sports person. In fact I would probably consider myself quite lazy but from time to time I may get on a bike or go for a jog – these sunglasses serve me fine for this and look the part, but come the weekend outside the pub they take on my friends in their Prada and D&G sunglasses. I would say they win hands down, but I guess I would. I love them.
