One for people who just don't like glare!
The latest trend in qualities to look out for in sunglasses, is undoubtedly the polarised lens. Boasting a higher quality than your average UV protection, polarised lenses essentially prevent glare from obstructing your vision…a bit lost? Ill give you the low down………

The Oakley Polarised Collection
Ok so if you imagine light travelling in horizontal and vertical lines. If light reflects off a horizontal surface, eg water, the roof of a car, or a wet road, the light will be reflected back into your eyes at a similar angle which makes you squint on a sunny day. Polarised lenses work by filtering out these horizontal light beams and only allowing the vertical through. Pretty smart, and great for your eyes. Not only this, but it means you don’t have to strain your muscles and squint and your vision isn’t constantly being obstructed. As you can imagine, this is particularly important, which is why the first type of person who will opt for a polarised lens, are those who do a lot of driving.
Or if you’re more the outdoorsy type, many athletes swear by them. Fisherman are enabled to see below the surface for their catch, cyclists can race round the course without glare causing danger and obstructing their view, as is the same essentially with drivers and key advantages have been found whilst sailing as the harsh bright light can reflect off the sea and cause problems with vision.
Oakley pride themselves on their polarised lenses which guarantee to block 99.9% of glare and do so without the visual distortion which comes with ordinary lenses on the curve of the lens. The polarised lens also help maintain your colour recognition in bright sunlight, enabling you to enjoy your surroundings without marring the appearance. Oakley use a liquid infusion process to bond the lens material to the polarizing filter at the molecular level…sounds technical eh?! But all we care about is the result….crystal clarity and precise vision.
Any disadvantages? Well, you have to be careful what you’re looking for in regards to your profession. Polarised lenses are not suitable for downhill skiers for example as polarized lenses would block the reflection from icy patches…as are darker than ordinary lenses. They are also unsuitable for pilots as the lens means you are unable to see light display LCDs on computerised systems or mobiles
Super cool sunglasses, tick box, unbeatable protection tick box, cutting edge technology…that’s 3 out of 3!
Lets have a look at what Oakley have to offer in the Polarised range….

When light hits a reflective surface like water or paving it scatters, travelling in all directions and is the cause of what’s commonly known as glare. Glare causes discomfort and eyestrain because the eye needs to work harder to overcome the increased brightness coming from a reflective object. If you're walking by a water source like a river you can look away, however you can't take your eyes off the road while driving. This is why long distance lorry drivers, fisherman and sports enthusiasts see Oakley’s polarised sunglasses as a fundamental part of their eyewear protection as they filter out and eliminate glare. If you think polarised lenses are all alike then you’re very much mistaken as Oakley produce the best polarised lenses known to man kind. Unlike ordinary polarised lenses which don’t block nearly as much glare as they should! Oakley sunglasses won't distort what lies before you.
Here are seven of Oakley's exclusive technologies that put their polarised lenses in the centre of the sunglass map.
HDO means distorted vision can be a thing of the past, allowing you to see a clearer world. High Definition Optics maintains an unbeaten level of clarity at all times even at long distances, putting standard polarised lenses in the dark. Objects appear to change their position when light hits the surface of regular lenses as it bends in different directions, meaning your brain has to even work harder to piece the images together. Something which is unknown to polarised Oakley sunglass wearers as they only experience true light and perceive objects in their actual position, all thanks to Oakley's patented High Definition Optics technology. Wearers also have the reassurance of knowing that Oakley doesn't just meet American National Standards Institute clarity testing requirements, it exceeds them.
Oakley bond on a molecular level and fuse a series of specially formulated chemical compounds into their lenses so that their prestigious glare preventing technology can't be rubbed or worn off, infusion moulding that provides clear, crisp clarity.
Oakley's so called 'competition' uses a cheaper 'sandwich' infusion moulding technique which glues a film in between the lenses which increases distortion considerably, decreasing clarity which is the essence of eyewear and should never be compromised.
Any adrenaline junkie and sports enthusiast will know that rough comes with the smooth and that you eyes can be a target for gravel, sand and dirt which is a flying problem. Oakley test their polarised lenses with extreme High Mass Impact and High Velocity testing. Lenses are struck by a 1 pound ball bearing that's dropped from a height of 4 feet during the High Mass Impact test. To pass, which Oakley's polarised lenses always do, no part of the frame or lens fragments may be dispersed on impact.
For the High Velocity Test, an air compressed cannon fires a quarter inch steel ball at 102 miles per hour at the lens, a procedure that’s conducted from 3 different distances and 7 different angles. To achieve a pass, the lens can't reach the eye and like the High Mass Impact test, none of the frames parts or lens fragments can be ejected during impact.
While the lenses protect your face and eyes on mild impact, Oakley's hydrophobic coating protects your lenses, ground breaking technology that repels dust, dirt, oil, sweat and is water resistant. A patented coating that leaves lenses cleaner, for longer than any other brand. That's an Oakley promise. Hydrophobic lenses stay streak free as they repel liquids such as water, oil and sweat which will bead off the surface of the lens if they ever do meet. If you do find yourself with a liquid residue it can easily be removed with the wipe of a cleaning cloth, unlike other maker’s sunglasses, reducing left over haze and cleaning time. Anti static, making dust, dirt and unwanted particles a thing of the past! Axis The axis of polarisation, a vital feature in the fight against glare, proving angles really do matter. Angles, a key factor when it comes to prevention against being blinded by glare an invite to view life through the best polarised lenses in the world. Industry standards for polarised filters require that filters are to be fitted inside the frame so that the plane of polarisation doesn't deviate from a horizontal direction by more than 5 degrees, and the difference between the left and right filters can't by greater than 6 degrees. Many sunglass brands do only what is required and their plane of polarisation is far from straight which compromises accuracy.
As always, Oakley have gone beyond the call of duty and have ensured their polarised lenses are within 2 degrees of the horizontal plane instead of the required 6.
Although Oakley's polarised lenses only block 99.9% of polarised light waves they’re still impressive by any standard. Life's too short and you shouldn't have to miss a minute of it so stop light waves in their tracks and keep the suns glare at bay with Oakley's polarised emission.
As well as providing the best polarised lenses in the universe Oakley spoil their customers with an extensive choice of lens colour options, because eyewear serves a multitude of different purposes. Their sunglasses are specifically designed with 18 different colour combinations to suit your everyday needs. Oakley, more than just sunglasses.
