This frame uses alloy metals that when the first Oakley sunglasses were born the developers only dreamed about. To have sunglasses that are strong and light is pretty much the ultimate goal. Eyewear needs to be tough. Not because when you are wearing them they may fall apart. This doesn't happen. It is for when you are not wearing them. When they fall off your head as you are struggling with the shopping and then you kick them. This is why tough matters, and Oakley have perfected tough eyewear.
Oakley go on to say, "Even the best style in the world is nothing without comfort, so we designed SPLINTER with custom-engineered spring hinges and added UNOBTAINIUM® sleeves to the temples. That way, SPLINTER maintains a secure fit that stays comfortably in place, even when you sweat. The frame makes contact only at the sides of the head and the bridge of the nose, taking full advantage of Oakley’s Three-Point Fit that holds the lenses in precise optical alignment."
There are a lot of people that do not know what spring hinges are. Hinges that are sprung mean the arms will open past the point where you actually wear them. Not in the arms folded closed direction, but open, then open a bit more. Why is this important you say? One of the reasons is because each time you put on a snug pair of sunglasses the arms open up more than they should. Without sprung hinges there may be tension across the front of the sunglasses. Also sprung hinges mean the sunglasses do not sit as tight on your temples so will not case a tension headache. The Unobtanium sleeves that Oakley like to call are the replaceable bits that run down the arms. The good thing is that you can replace them, so if they perish after years of sweat attack, replace the ear socks and your sunglasses are as good as new once again.

What Oakley are saying here is that their lens uses their Plutonite (an Oakley material that is super touch and excellent to look through). The lenses are also very curved and historically when you curve a lens it causes distortion. But Oakley using their engineering skills have managed to correct any distortion giving you pin point accuracy even at the edges of the lens.
