When you're having a tough game of cricket, the last thing you want to be worrying about is whether your eyes are protected from the sun. We have selected the best pairs for cricket so you don't have to. All sunglasses protect from harmful UV rays and will not hinder vision, meaning you can keep your eyes on the ball however challenging the game is.
Ok so its not a fast paced and in your face as other sports, but its British and this is all we’ve got! C’mon we’ve all had a game at some point in our lives, I used to play heaps when I was a kid and I loved it. From the ages of about 7-13 I used to get dragged along with my Dad on cricket tour once a year too. They’d play a game, us kids would interfere or start our own mini game with a foam ball and rubber bat and the cricket WAGS would be getting drunk on their ‘picnic’ to pass the time. Familiar scene?
Anyway, for those cricket lovers out there, and I know there are many, there are heaps of great sunglasses which are perfect for you! Cricket days are summer days and I don’t remember a day when the sun wasn’t shining watching my dad play.
Variety
When it comes to variety, cricket sunglasses certainly have that! Brands have certainly recognised our love for the sport and honoured this love by developing a mix of designs.
Oakley
Ever the sports experts, Oakley have within their range several options for cricket lovers.
Point of reference no 1? Opt for a Polarised lens. I’m not suggesting here, I’m telling. As with any outdoor sport, the sun will play a factor in the success of your game. Or equally as good? An Iridium lens, which does the same trick and has a mirrored finish on the front. If your eyes are not properly protected they will strain and cause you a headache. A polarised lens works by filtering out the horizontal light rays, meaning rays reflecting off shiny surfaces will be blocked from entering your eye. No more squinting and getting knocked out by the ball!
Anything with a Polarised Gold Iridium lens really does the job as the lens colour helps bring out the red ball against the green pitch. Great options from Oakley include the Radar Path Photochromic Polished Black (09-731) or the Flak Jacket Polished Rootbeer Polarised (12-901) A photochromic lens will adjust to the changing light conditions to prevent eye strain. I like both of these, they would be my top pick from Oakley.
Oakley also offer Jawbones or XL Radar Blades if you want to go all out! But for me personally, something more understated is fine for cricket.
Adidas
Heres a fact I only just found out, Adidas is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and the 2nd largest in the world! So if 60 years of trading didn’t convince you of their commitment, that surely will!
Top marks for technology, the Adidas frames suited for cricket are a technology overload. On offer? The Adivista range. Not as out there as Oakley on the colour front, but equally as clued up when it comes to performance, Adidas have gone for the professional looking smart pastel colours. The A165/00 6051 are ultra clean cut and really look the part.
I think these Adivistas are great. They are real pros glasses. Not only do they look good but perform well too. They really look the par. They have adopted a sleek modern design which is fashionable and ultra sporty. I’m really impressed with just how fashionable these look considering Adidas’ main concern is sports performance they clearly haven’t neglected the appearance side and far from it!
The lenses use Light Stabilising Technology (LST) which intensifies contrast to help you see more clearly and enhances light and shadow for clarified vision. This is great for your eyes because it means you wont have to squint and your eyes wont have to constantly adjust causing strain.
The nose pieces have a double snap positioning so can be customised to fit you!
And the pièce de résistance? Adidas have manufactured moveable stems! This means you can tilt the sunglasses down into your face when looking down at the ball and you wont get an annoying gap at the bottom!
Rudy Project
A pretty underrated brand, Rudy Project shouldn’t be overlooked as have developed some top notch pieces including this Freeon Matte Black. Pure statement pair of sunglasses. The large wrapped pink visor helps bring out the red of the ball against the green background and with an extended field of vision, you cant really go wrong!
